Jed entertains the boys at the chemical plant

"After wailing away
You finally tell the truth
That you've been seeing
Some other goof ..."

Once upon a time there was a group of musicians ...

Although we were sometimes known as The Disgruntled, we had one incarnation as The Flatlanders. Who am I talking about? This motley crew:

Now, we picked a bad name (Flatlanders) because there was already a band by that name and there would be a danger that our fans might buy their CDs or—worse!—their fans might buy our CDs.

Anyhow, I recently digitized our demo tape, which gave me an opportunity to listen to it again, after many years. Overall, we sounded like a pretty good band, with the potential to be even better. The weak spot is guitar solos ... high points include Craig's and Chris' interaction on bass and drums, and Jennifer's singing. My rhythm guitars could keep pace with the rest of the band.

As I remember it, the demo tape was 12-1/2 minutes long and cost $1500 to make. That translates to $1.60 per second. Yeowch!

Here are the songs:

Or, perhaps you'd like to know what we sounded like when we were fall-down drunk.
