GYZ is a band formed in 2003 by Brian Porter and Ken Pink joined later by Ed Reifel, Jennifer Scott, and Rene Worst.
GYZ puts a sometimes quirky, sometimes alternative spin on their blend of pop and rock, often driven by rhythmic guitars, and other times carried by overarching piano, but always with lyrical expression.
They have released two CDs: DIS (2008) and Floyd Died for Our Sins (2010).
DIS was started as a collaboration between two guys who just couldn't stop talking about songs and music. Brian and Ken found themselves in constant conversation about making a CD, so one day they decided to get together and just jam a bit. What followed was a creative streak neither had experienced before. One session led to another to another. Pretty soon they started recording their ideas because there were so many, and the groundwork for DIS was started. Settling on a small group of songs, they put together the CD as a labour of love.
Floyd Died for our Sins was the CD where Ken and Brian took all they'd learned to that point and brought in their friends and fellow musicians to create a more unified, finer-produced sound. Starting with the same creative collaboration that went into their first CD, Ken and Brian layered more and more complex sounds to the mix. With talented guests such as Rene Worst, Ed Reifel, and Jennifer Scott, GYZ proved that their creative ideas could benefit from a mixture of styles and musical abilities. The resulting work is something that all of them are proud of.
