You know what is really scraping my paint job these days? Those idiots who have taken to advertising in Guestbooks. Actually to be honestly specific, I am really only feeling hostile towards those bozos who are advertising in my Guestbook.
These chowderheads advertise drugs, card games, software, and sometimes things I can't quite figure out. Of course I remove them immediately upon discovery, but I don't check my guestbook very often ... maybe once a week or less. (I mean, it normally doesn't change that much.) So that means that their advertising might survive two or three days!
But what is really irking me is the fact that these completely pathetic idiots really think that they might be able to drum up some business if only they can get their product listed in enough Guestbooks. It's a sad and sorry existence for these losers chasing a few bucks (that probably aren't there anyway).
There is an expanding myth out there that says spam is effective. Everyone quotes the numbers: "If only one in a million people buy something advertised through Spam, you can still make 10 sales from this Spam campaign." And enough people believe it that spammers themselves are making money. (But the people who hire the spammers aren't making a damned cent ... they are just losing that money and hiding the loss as part of their advertising budget.)
Well, I suspect there is a newer and stupider advertising campaign starting for Guestbooks. Soon it won't just be moronically hopeful individuals advertising their crud, it will be the spammers looking to try and extort more money out of fools. And, somehow, I got onto a list somewhere ... with the ramifications for the future that that means. Right now I get a few people a week using my servers to store their advertising crap ... but how many more in the future? And who will be the recipient of the advertising? For my website, it will be the less than 10 people a week who look at my Guestbook!
Stupid and pointless.
