Here's a riddle for you:
Imagine it is your birthday. You are standing in some line-up somewhere, with a man in front of you, and two women behind you.
Bored, you start to hum Happy Birthday to You quietly to yourself.
Overhearing you, the man in front turns around and looks at you strangely, so you explain it to him: "It's my birthday today."
"Well, I'll be!" He exclaims, rather uncleverly, "It's mine too!"
Suddenly, from behind you, you hear one of the women say, "It's my birthday today too!"
And, startlingly, the woman behind her says, "Mine too!"
Where is the line-up?

Today a coworker and I were talking about blogs. He sat at lunch and expressed his Strong Disapproval of blogs such as this one. He stated that industry blogs—you know, some software developer's status report on the state of his product or his corner of the industry or whatever—were perfectly fine with him, but blogs where the writer just types out his opinions (I fed him the analogy of standing on soapboxes so that he could continue fuming) was a waste of time.
I told him about this blog, and explained that, for whatever reason, I got over 2000 visits last month—that I get a little stunned at the thought of that many people reading me and my opinions. I wasn't critical of the folks who read my opinions, of course. I get emails, the occasional entry in my guestbook, and a few people now link to the ranting main page ... and thanks to those folks and welcome. They are still infrequent enough that I can reply to all of them, though I will seldom reply publicly. (With an occasional exception.)

So, in case you are wondering, today is not my birthday; though I had one recently. The situation I described in the above riddle occurred almost exactly as I described it, except I didn't hum, I sort of sang, "Do do doo doo doo doooooo." :-)
