I don't watch any of those "entertainment magazine" type shows on television. I find that the more I learn about actors and musicians the more I dislike them personally, and the less enjoyable I find the results of their work. But my wife sometimes watches such shows, and the other night was one such occasion. I was doing something in the kitchen, but I could hear the TV from where I was working.
There was some weak-minded pretty-boy talking about how he went to Iraq because he "owed it to the troops". Now, I wasn't watching, so I don't know if it was some "reporter" or some actor or musician, but whoever it was, he clearly had a high opinion of himself and his trip to Iraq.
This little useless chunk of skin was spinning himself as the modest type: "I was afraid for my life, but also realised that going home would let the troops down!" or: "The explosion occurred within 200 meters of where I was [that's 2 football fields long, by the way] and that's how close you all came to never seeing me again ..." Oh brother.
Well, he tried very hard to make himself look brave and modest, but to my eyes he just looked like a spoiled brat whose PR reps informed him a trip to Iraq would bolster his career. And when he got there, he weak-mindedly let the army "handle" him so that he could report back just exactly what they wanted him to.
But what this all boils down to is War Profiteering. His personal stock probably went up for his masturbatory trip to a war zone. And I find that just about the most disgusting thing there is in this world.
I know that I have a lot of opinions about a lot of things; however, to my mind, War Profiteering is just about the most despicable and horrid action anyone can perform. And don't think that it is only about lying in wait for a good opportunity to come along and seize the moment. It makes more sense to set the wars up first. Create the need. And then jump in to make a profit.
I get almost inarticulate with fury when I think that human history has been punctuated with created wars—fervid appeals made to people to stew them up into an angry fever pitch. And those inspirations of violence are made by those folks in a position to profit from the ensuing melee.
There are always two groups of people who get killed in wars:
- Soldiers, who signed up for that madness in the first place
- Civilians unlucky enough to be in the way, and who most certainly did not sign up for the death, waste, and madness that appeared in their back yard
And as the ultimate insult is made on these peoples' bodies and minds, War Profiteers sit safely away from the "action" and count the money as it rolls in. Money spent in hatred ... a hatred they stirred up themselves.
Now, about the guy I mentioned at the start: I don't actually believe that this moronic little piece of shit who went to Iraq to improve his visibility is of the same mental acuity as the folks who plan out and create wars, but he is nevertheless of the same ilk; he opportunistically used war to further his career.
Well, a curse on him.
