July 2nd, 2005
We went "out for a spin" today, which actually entails driving along Highway 7 all the way to Harrison, then Highway 9 to Cheam Lake, Highway 1 from there to Hope, then the long flight home on Highway 1. Lotsa driving, and lotsa sightseeing.
We had a great day, and even got a nice sunny afternoon for our picnic lunch at Cheam Lake. Then we walked along the trails there, spotting a "dangerous" 40-centimeter garter snake and a "deadly" hare—both flashing out of our sight as fast as their modes of movement could propel them.
It was nice day and very relaxing, even with the driving I put in.
Now, aside from a bit of rain around noon, there was only one dark spot on the day, and that was some bizarre motorcade of several motorcycles, a few police cars, and about a dozen "unmarked" vehicles which crawled all the way from Pitt Meadows to Harrison, often as slow as 20 Km/H. What irritated me is that whatever politician it was (of course it was a politician; who else would get that kind of wasteful treatment?), lots and lots of cars were inconvenienced by the ludicrously slow speed of the procession. I mean, there were a lot of delayed people ... and a lot of pissed off people as a result.
But I don't really want to whinge too much. A co-worker showed me her own blog, and the difference between her writing and mine is like night and day. Where she is pleasant and ready to give people the benefit of the doubt, I am pissy and ready to call things as I see them, regardless of other folks' feelings. She is pleasant; I am snarky. She looks for the positives, I articulate my irritation.
So, in that vein: Today, despite a minor inconvenience, was a wonderful day with a fine road trip, wonderful lunch ... and, as always, the company was great!
