I'm not a blow-hard, I'm from North Vancouver.

My wife's company had a picnic this weekend. I gotta be honest: I didn't want to go—especially after learning that it was way the hell out in Langley. But she goes to the hospital to visit my sister, comes along for the ride when I go a lot of places, and just generally supports me in pretty much every possible day. So I said to myself that one picnic a year is not too much to ask.

Well, I am very glad I went!

First off, the food was excellent and abundant! They had the usual hot dogs and hamburgers, but they also had ribs and corn dogs, not to mention the mountains of potato, thai, and green salads. Dessert was wonderful as well, and there were chips galore, drinks extreme, and so much of everything that we all could have eaten three times our fill and left food behind. This is generous, no?

There was a live band, free gift bags (full shopping bags) for the children consisting of toys and candy, and games such as ring the bell and toss the ball and an inflatable ball room and slide! It was a wonderful event that was particularly well-planned out.

But the best part is this: There was a raffle for prizes. Prizes included things like iPods, boxes of groceries, gift baskets, and athletic bags full of sporting equipment. The grand prize was a bicycle, and the two second prizes were water dispensers.

Well ... we won one of the second prizes! We got a water dispenser that dispenses cold water from one tap, hot (nearly boiling) water from another tap, and room-temperature water from a third tap! Wowee!!!! What a cool prize!!! Yippeee!!!! It was so cool to win that, and we were so pleased and happy.

So we loaded it into the car and brought it home, set it up and plugged it in. And last night my wife had tea made with hot water from the dispenser and I drank lots of cold water drawn from the other tap ... it was such a neat thing to have!

I've been thinking thirstily all day about it ... :-)
