I wanted Vista. Can you believe that?

Strange as it seems now, I once was excited about the new sexy operating system with the great security and the trés chic user interface. I was thrilled at the thought of the new networking protocols and the better, more stable display driver model.

But I've had nothing but problems. I've written rant after rant about problems encountered trying to use my computer running Vista.

And now this:

On Friday my keyboard stopped working. Then my mouse. Suddenly, I could only access my computer from the network (and, lucky dog that I am, the chronically-sick networking still worked—see how Vista has conditioned me to feel lucky when something actually works?)

Later, I got the USB mouse to work, so with that and the on-screen keyboard I was able to get to Device Manager to try and reinstall drivers. But nothing worked. And, believe me, I tried bloody everything.

Finally, I just copied over whatever new files there were since my last backup, then had to completely wipe and reload Windows to "factory" settings. Then started the laborious process of Windows Updates, reinstalling all the software I use, and restoring my files from backup.

My time is not exactly free; this has taken a large toll on my bottom line.

I would have upgraded to XP if I could, but there is some hardware in my laptop that has no XP drivers for it (e.g., new fancy built-in quick-launch buttons), so I couldn't do that.

I am trapped in Vista Hell.
