So the missus and I are now properly moved into our townhouse. But that doesn't mean all is normal.

For starters, we have about 35 boxes full of ... stuff ... that require unpacking and sorting, and eventual placement. Luckily, about half of those boxes contain nothing but books. Regrettably, about half of those don't. :-)

But we soldier on. The kitchen, bathrooms, and bedroom are functional, so we can live ... provided we don't mind the occasional stint of mountain climbing to get over the boxes that lie between us and our goal (whether or not that's the door, a bathroom, or another box containing some item we just can't live without).

Last night, despite coming home late after an especially pleasing anniversary dinner compliments of our real estate agent's gift certificates, I moved some furniture: I got the television stand and TV and DVD player into the correct corner, and I got all the component pieces of the bookshelves downstairs into the rec room. I also moved the main floor bookshelves to the location they are supposed to go. Things are decidedly looking up, though I still look upon the unloading of those boxes with some trepidation.

Another issue is the upstairs bathroom which was not as clean we had hoped/expected. And it is in need of some repairs and upgrades—but we knew about that part of it, at least. The toilet especially has a lazy slow flush that means we have to stand next to it for 30 seconds or so after flushing it once, and Try Again to -er- finish the job.

But, hot damn, it's our new home and, as I mentioned to my wife the other night, this home is an upgrade for just about every part of our life. Larger living space, better washer & dryer and other appliances, nicer and quieter neighborhood ... just much more suburban in general (though it's a townhouse, not a single-family dwelling): Mail comes through the mail-slot in the door and newspapers lie on our front step awaiting our return home. And barbeques in the back yard.

All may not be normal yet, but it's going to be a nicer normal when it's there than it was in our last place. It's exciting.
