I am something of a sports junkie. It's a weakness that I seem unable to do anything about it. Hockey, football, baseball, even curling and golf can keep me glued to the TV for hours at a time.
But there is something pathetically stupid about team loyalty. Basically, when we cheer a victory we are saying:
"Yay! I am better than you because the team that plays half its games in my hometown beat the team that plays half its games in your hometown!"
I'm not really going anywhere with that observation ... I just think it's stupid ... and, yes, I inculcate myself with just as much culpability as others' with that indictment.
