Have you ever noticed how there seems to be periods in your life when much that was stable for years at a time suddenly all changes within a few months? I've had that happen to me a few times, now, and I realise from what I see and hear from my friends and family, that the same phenomenon occurs with them as well.
Take 1995 in my case: I went to South Korea for several months, separated (later divorced) my wife, switched careers to a new kind of job (that actually paid something decent), and began living alone for the first time truly ever (no roommates, no family). That's a lot for what amounted to a 6- or 8-month period.
And, now, take a look at 2008: My career took a new managerial turn (not just more of the same), moved from a 1-bedroom apartment to a 3-bedroom townhouse, and—of course—saw the birth of my daughter, Annette. Three life-sized changes.
This time last year, my life looked completely different. Yet it didn't change significantly for at least 4 years before that. This year was a Change Node.
