There's been a discussion going on in my Mensa group about what constitutes an afterlife. I've been seriously down on the whole concept, and so has at least one other member, but there are a lot of Ms who firmly believe there is an afterlife—whether through a religious-style pleasure-dome afterlife, or (much more common) a scientific-ish "common experience" kind of afterlife. I'm still not swayed: I'm pretty convinced that there is no afterlife, no matter what context its hypothesized to be in.

Furthermore, why does it have to be restricted to science afterlife and faith afterlife? What if there is an afterlife made from the ripples of emotion we leave behind? Or an afterlife that's downright miserable and/or unpleasant? Are there multiple instances of dead people in several afterlives? I just don't buy any of it. Simply stated.

But I'm sure we are eternal. :-)

It goes back to what I said a few days ago:

"Though we may be temporary, the great continuum (entropy) is eternal. We won't live forever, but that doesn't mean we completely disappear when we're gone ... for as long as we are here, we can make an imprint on that entropic trend. As long as we are alive, we have the power to leave a splash and a ripple in the waters of time, and the current before we arrive and the current after we leave will be different by the amount of impact we make during our lives. So what if we are temporary? We add to the eternal continuum."
