So the first step was to remove everything from the counters and the books from the back of the toilet, including my copy of Being and Nothingness by Jean-Paul Sartre. (Many people have commented on my keeping that book in the bathroom, describing it with such words as "existentialist", "wankerish", "sophomoric", and "appropriate".) Note how I removed the stripping from around the base of the walls.
